iPhone
(1) (InternetPhone) See IP phone and softphone.

(2) A smartphone from Apple that integrates cellphone, iPod, camera, text messaging, e-mail and Web browsing. Data and applications can be sent to the phone wirelessly or via Apple's iTunes software, which is used to organize music, videos, photos and applications (see iTunes).

Introduced in the U.S. in mid-2007, the iPhone is available exclusively from AT&T until 2012. The iPhone 3G, introduced in July 2008, adds GPS, higher data speed and an application platform that turns the iPhone into an ultra-mobile, general-purpose computer. With the 3G, the iPhone was finally introduced in Canada by Rogers Communications and its Fido subsidiary. It was also made available in many other parts of the world (see SIM lock).

The iPhone is operated almost entirely via an innovative 3.5" touch screen. A major breakthrough in usability (see multitouch), the user interface was also carried forward in the next-generation iPod (see iPod touch).
The iPhone 3G introduced Version 2.0 of the OS and the iPhone development platform. Turning the phone into a general-purpose mobile computer, iPhone and iPod touch users can download thousands of free and paid applications from the App Store. For example, in late 2008, this encyclopedia became available as an iPhone app. With the 3G, Apple also targeted corporate users by including synchronization with the Microsoft Exchange mail server. In this era where we are surrounded by dozens of amazing applications for smart phones that offers exciting features. In this pool of applications ranging from GPS devices to the scan barcodes devices; a latest application named as Word Lens has been introduced for the iPhone and iPad Touch 4G, which has blown the shocking wind. It’s amazing feature of decoding words in real time through the usage of the camera on your device, has truly emerged an exciting spirit among the users.
The function of the iPhone application “Word Lens” moves around the built in character recognition software which function is to identify the words that the device camera is covering in an instant and once the characters are recognized the application translates them with the help of the built in dictionary. After the translation is backed by a strong source it then decodes the phrases or words in real time by analyzing the images the camera is pointing at. The note worthy fact is that iPhone application ‘Word Lens’ performs this amazing task just right from your iPhone without using any internet connection.

Currently the users can have this amazing application in their iphones without putting any extra costs, i.e. on free basis however for now the app is only compatible with English-Spanish languages’ dictionary. It is expected that soon or later the developers will launch the latest version for the app which will support other languages as well.
Thus Word Lens itself is a valuable application for owning an iPhone 4 or an iPod Touch 4G, the models that lies under the app’s compatible mode.
